Liam Earney

Managing Director - Higher Education and Research - Jisc

Liam Earney is managing director of higher education and research at Jisc, the UK’s digital agency for lifelong learning and research. Liam leads HE member engagement through and with Jisc’s account management team.​

He is accountable for our HE and research strategies and their implementation.​

This includes engaging with senior sector stakeholders and, internally, working closely with Jisc’s product directorates to ensure we meet sector needs. As the higher education sector emerges from the pandemic Jisc is focused on supporting universities with digital strategy development and transformation, data analytics and insight, open research enabling systems and negotiations, help for students to find careers, a greater choice of digital resources for academics and students, connectivity and cyber security protection.​

Alongside his role as managing director Liam is responsible for Jisc’s digital content and software negotiations, its provision of discovery services and it’s work in open research. His particular interest in the development of partnerships and collaborations at Jisc has seen him work with tertiary education, funders, cultural bodies, international organisations and the health sector to improve access to knowledge and information to support education and research.
